An excerpt from my complete statement.

When I'm painting, I strive to maintain a Zen-like clarity that enables me to create art. Most often I have a clear idea of what I want to paint, but occasionally the subject that I'm painting will dictate its course of action and change my direction and I will follow that new direction. This can lead me to some unexpected treasures. Whenever this happens I try to go with the flow and, of course, this is the interesting part: I never know what is going to happen next.
